Nearly 6,000 rail industry professionals attended the Infrarail Exhibition held at the NEC, Birmingham between the 13th - 15th April 2010. With almost 240 exhibition stands, some with their own section of track, it was reckoned to be the biggest Infrarail exhibition yet held. Click on this link to take a look at the show's review (link opens in a separate window).

Rail safety is of paramount importance. It seems we all too often hear of 'another railway accident', but increased safety has to be ensured against the backdrop of getting the fare paying passenger from where he wants to board, to where he wants to go to in the shortest time possible.
The majestic rail route which strides over the Pennines between the Yorkshire Market Town of Settle and Carlisle in Cumbria has recently seen some upgrade work to the signalling system which has enabled more frequent train services to run safely, but at a reduced cost from a complete overhaul of the whole system. Read this super article here featured in Rail Engineer online magazine to see how safety has not been compromised for the sake of speed.
Earlier this year I asked for people's experiences and preferences of Social Media platforms. From the replies which I received here, I note that there is a distinct pattern which largely concurs with the findings of professionally conducted surveys which have been carried out over the last year.
Whether you use social media for personal or business use, it is useful to know how well you connect with your target audience. Follow this link by CMO.com to take a look at a quick guide to how some of the more popular social media sites compare with one another. See which sites are best for purely social interactions, or which are best if, like me, you run a business and are trying to reach and appeal to a broader client base.

Reading Safety & Health Practitioner, an online magazine to which I subscribe, I have found an article entitled 'Work at height: A high watermark' by Mike Battman. It is approaching five years since the controversial Work at height Regulations came into effect. Read Mike's full article here to see more about this important regulatory change, and to see some of the effects it has made since its inception.

So, a new year starts and the old one is out the window and gone. New challenges, new opportunities and, hopefully, new friendships and partnerships being formed. We would like to send everyone that we deal with our very best wishes for 2010.
I have just been reading an article by Benjamin Dyer about the upsurge in the use of social media by businesses.
Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and other social media carriers are all reporting a massive increase in the volume of businesses using their platforms to interact with their customers. Do you make much use of the social media platforms to communicate with friends or family? or do you receive and read feeds and articles from businesses via the social media platforms? Do you mainly use the social media via 3G hand-held devices, wireless connected laptops or desk PC? I’d like to know if you do, it may prove to be a far more effective way of getting a better insight into what you, our valued customer, search for and seek advice from. Please drop me a line and give me a brief idea of which platforms you use, whether you mostly use them for work or other activities etc. I will personally reply to all who reply to this request, and look forward to hearing from you as ever. I will post a follow-up to this in the Spring.
Rgds. Peter.
